Rowan

Rowan is doing very well!  We’ve kept his name; it’s a great one! He has been to the groomers twice now and his fur is growing in beautifully!  He really is a gorgeous dog!

We are all working on manners right now. Our children gave us training with a trainer for Christmas!  He’s very smart but likes to do things his way. We’re busy working past his adorableness.

His adjustment has been ongoing. I believe he’s comfortable here and is feeling at home. He’s very curious. He actually loves cars. He is constantly sniffing around them on walks. I have no idea why but it makes him happy. He also loves going down to the basement. Again, who knows why?  We’re working on him not pushing us out of the way to get down there.

Rowan loves our 6 yr old grandson Austin. And Austin loves him! My son has a 9 month old puppy named Teddy, cute as a button. But he can drive Rowan around the bend a little bit. After all Teddy is a puppy and he’s learning manners too.  But when we’re all together it’s fun chaos. I love it!  That what family is all about.

Rowan’s health is good!  We’ve slowed down his itching with fish oil and probiotics. Now working on not eating poop. He’s not discriminating, he’ll eat it all but it’s starting to improve.  Rowan still eats like it’s his last meal so a slow feeder helps. I have noticed it’s  about 4 minutes of eating vs. 3 minutes to eat so I’ll call that a win. But he loves his treats!  He’s very food motivated so it’s helping with his training. He’s learned to sit and we’re working on “place,” stay, boundaries. We’re learning a lot as well and getting into the mind of a dog.

For a dog that we really know nothing about he has done fantastic!  He is relatively calm, non-jumping and sweet. He wants to be everybody’s friend but charging up to people is a no-no. I can’t wait to bring him to our next block party to introduce him properly as a well-mannered man. I think he’s happy to be here and we are happy he is! He’s brought much joy and activity to our home. Our second “best boy” from Animal Haven!
