Luna

Wheatie (now Luna) is doing very well! She has very much adapted to her new home. Her acclimation process took quite a long time. At first I couldn’t go near her (she had her own room for the first week or two)–she would hiss, hide under furniture, and the like. That was then. She is now extremely friendly and knows not only that I’m “the hand that feeds her” but also her advocate and not a threat. She purrs, plays incessantly. She is a very vocal cat, almost as vocal as a Siamese. However, it hasn’t been until the last few days–more than three months after I got her–that I have tried to pick her up off the ground. She’s not yet tolerating as well as she’ll need to, as I will need to take her to the vet very soon (it seems she has ear mites).

Her name is now “Luna” but I always tell people that her middle name is still “Wheatie”. She is a friendly cat, very curious, playful, and content. All cats are little “neurotic” (am anthropomorphizing here) and Luna/Wheatie absolutely is no exception. But she’s a happy cat. She is almost completely adjusted. As I mentioned, I want her to get to the point where I can pick her up briefly without her panicking; and that will come soon, I think.

[We also have] 17-year-old April. Luna is a little scared of her, but the older cat has now accepted her presence. Luna will go and sit on the older cat’s resting places when the cat’s not there.

No eating issues whatsoever. In fact, she has a very healthy appetite! It took a while, but Luna /Wheatie is now completely litter-box trained. It took some work on my part to get her there, but she’s completely compliant now.
