Godiva

Godiva’s name will remain Godiva. She is amazing. We all love her so much. Your team will remember that my other dog, Riley, is dog reactive. The first day she met Godiva in one of the outdoor runs at Animal Haven, Godiva approached her in all friendliness and Riley charged at and barked at her (insert eye roll—Riley often acts like a jerk but has never bit anyone, dog or person). The amazing Animal Haven team—led by Sam, Ava, and Myriam—invited us to come back a couple of times a week, which we did for six weeks or so, slowly working up to sitting inside Ava’s office at the shelter together. In those sessions, Riley and Godiva would ignore each other. I was super nervous that, even though she was doing better with Godiva at Animal Haven, Riley would not be happy to see her at our home. But by the time Godiva came to our house (dropped off by 4 loving Animal Haven team members!), Riley actually seemed happy to see her! It was so heartwarming, and has only gotten better from there. I think the only one happier than my husband and me that Godiva is a part of our family now is Riley! They play all the time and Riley always wants to be around Godiva and tries to get Godiva to play with her. Godiva seemed not to know or want to play at first, but she is playing more and more by the day and seems to really enjoy it. Godiva is an adorable goof and is becoming more and more loving with us and Riley all the time. Godiva is amazing with people, dogs, and children, and loves to go on trail runs with me. On a recent outing, we met two dads with a group of five small children, who we joined on the trail for a while. Godiva is lovely with kids, getting down on her belly to let them approach. When I asked one of them what kind of dog they thought Godiva was, they said: “A snuggle dog!”
