Bongo

No name change for Bongo. We were planning to rename him, but we realized that he’s clearly such a Bongo that we decided to keep the name.

He adjusted surprisingly fast! He spent his first few hours home hiding under the bed in the guest room, but he got braver and braver over the next few days until he’d explored the entire apartment, and now he runs the place and only hides under the beds if something is really scary (e.g., the vacuum). He even got up on the guest bed all by himself and slept next to me for part of that first night. When my sister-in-law was visiting for most of last month, he was thrilled with all the extra attention (and Churus).

He’s our only pet.

He seems to be doing well health-wise, but his calcium levels were elevated when we took him to the vet to get baseline bloodwork done, which caused slight concern. The vet did an ultrasound and found a slightly enlarged lymph node. The enlargement was slight enough that it could have been considered within normal range. He just had his follow up to see if there were any changes, and I’m happy to say his lymph node is now totally normal and there are no more concerns that there might be something going on there! We’re trying to balance staying on top of any potential health issues with not putting him through unnecessary vet visits, and he hasn’t shown any signs of feeling unwell.

Overall, he’s been doing great. He likes to park himself right next to us on the couch and watch TV (he’s really enjoying the World Cup, especially watching Mo Salah). He’s also an absolute menace, and he loves to hide behind the bedroom door or in his special cardboard box under the table and pounce at us when we walk past. Then he’ll do his little bunny hop to go hide and do it again. He seems absolutely delighted to get a reaction out of me (and he does it to me most often; he’s mostly very polite and sweet to my husband). He gets bitey with me (and only me) when we’re playing, but he’s a complete sweetheart when he’s not in play/hunt mode.
